The Kitten and The Goat, 9 New Shambles, Kendal, Cumbria, LA9 4TS

kitten and goat award

Right in the heart of The Old Grey Town, joining Finkle street with The Market Place is a tiny row of shops along a narrow cobbled 'ginnel' (alley).  These days the lane is a busy vibrant mix of shops - all still individually owned and run by local independent traders.  Number 9 is the home of the Kitten & the Goat.  Here, you will walk into a working artist's studio, as all kitten's work for sale is now produced here.  Having grown out of her home space, kitten spotted this little haven up for rent - and the deed was done.

Kitten buys all over the world - sourcing all sorts of interesting craft products.  The shop also stocks the good old everyday basics such as double-sided tapes and all sorts of glues - card, paper crafting equipment, embellishments, alterable items, all tried and tested brands - which you will also find kitten using on her bench every day.  Kitten is really good at understanding what makes a good crafting item - and will challenge anyone to have a go.  Along with her reasonable pricing and 'sample' packs - we dare you to leave with nothing!

The shop has grown since it's start in 2012 and now carries an extensive range of jewellery making supplies and agate beads - loose roving wool for dry needle felting, as well as the needles, bristle bases and moulds - the wonderful, bright modern designs from Fat Cat Cross Stitch - and knitting.  Kitten is a highly experienced knitter and writes the range of knitting patterns for the shop, she also loves starting beginners off on their knitting journey.  The shop only keeps Robin Double Knitting - but there are about 40 different colours - it's good quality,  economically priced, lovely and soft to work with, wears well, easy to wash and take care of, and still produced in the UK - all in all the best all-rounder.

Do take advantage of being able to look and try out the tools before you buy, kitten would not stock anything that was not reliable.

In the shop you will find a large array of card making and scrapbook supplies, as well as jewellery making tools and supplies - natural agate and semi-precious beads - dry needle tools and roving - children's kits.
