What are we?
Well known local artists Evsie (Robin Grenville-Evans) and princesskitten (Pandy Grenville-Evans) have joined forces to offer you a really individual arts and crafts shop.
New Shambles Lane follows an ancient path, Watt Lane, which ran through property owned in the 18th Century by the Trustees of the Market Place Chapel. It became the New Shambles in 1804, when the property was redeveloped as 12 butchers' shops. The Old Shambles, behind the Fleece Inn, was then abandoned.
There were no drains from any of the many slaughter houses around the Market place at that time and although the owners paid two shillings and sixpence a week to have the lane cleaned, it soon became known as Stinking Lane.
The shop has grown steadily since it's start in 2012. Kitten is a highly experienced knitter and writes the range of knitting patterns for the shop, she also loves starting beginners off on their knitting journey. The shop keeps Robin yarns for your basic range - with over 50 plain colours in stock - plus the Paintbox and fancy ranges. Robin is a good quality, economically priced yarn - lovely and soft to work with, wears well, easy to wash and take care of, and still produced in the UK. They are also agents for King Cole yarns - so have the glorious sparkly Tinsel yarn and the ever popular Splash colour effect.
You will also find an extensive (and ever-growing) range of jewellery making supplies and various beads. Kitten was trained as a repairing jeweller many years ago - so feel free to ask questions.
There are all sorts of extra bits and bobs too. Snazaroo face paints - Fimo clay - acrylic paints - fabric paints - glass paints - cross stitch - fat quarters - kits for all abilities.
